Rep. Munah Youngblood returns to Session, after 2 years of illness

CDC Montserrado District #9 Representative, Munah Pelhem Youngblocd has bounced back from sick bed after a protracted period, returning to the Capitol Building in Monrovia on Monday, January 13, 2020 for the resumption of Legislative Session.

As the official opening of the 3rd session of the 54th Legislature commenced with the hoisting of the Liberian flag and a parade leading them in the Rotunda of the Capitol Building, Rep. Youngblood was among the Lawmakers after two years of illness. During that period, there were even rumours/reports of worse happening to the young female lawmaker.

Both the Liberian Senate and members of the House Representatives separated upon reaching the rotunda and headed into their chambers.

As members of the House of Representatives walked along the corridors along with one of their colleague who has been ill for many months, bystanders and staff were heard saying, ”thank God for Munah”. Another was heard saying “God is great”.

Attired in a very long white dress , the District #9 lawmaker was greeted by her colleagues. They hugged her and laughed together.

The District #9 lawmaker who has been away from session due to her illness for the first time answered present to her name with a small across her face.

Officially, every sitting of the body, prayers are offered to seek God’s intervention, it was observed that the Monday January 13, 2020 Address his colleagues, the Speaker started his official statement with wishing the district #9 lawmaker and he asked Rep. Rossanah G.D Shock to welcome the lawmaker.

She said: “Mr Speaker, Deputy Speaker and members of the House of Representatives,  I want to thank God for our sister Munah’s speedy recovery. And we pray that she remains in good health,”     

The joyous lawmakers sang songs and banded on the disks in joy for the return of their friend.

Rep. Munah P. Youngblood has been off and on with illness since 2018, this sickness intensified something which caused her to be away from session for many months.

Sadly, many Liberians during the lawmaker’s period of sickness, broke news of her death on many occasions and that sad news went wide.

‘It took God to deliver me’

She made of first statement by raising a motion for the first sitting to be adjoined. 

Minutes after the adjustment of session, the Montsrrado County District# 9 lawmakers at a press conference praised God for her recovery.

According to her, it took God to deliver her from her illness.

When she was asked what was the cause of her prolong illness she informed reporters that Doctors told her that it was due to her inability to eat on time.

Rep. Youngblood, Chairman of the House Committee on Executive, indicated that as time went by in the sickness, it became complicated and she had to seek the face of the Lord backed by doctors’ treatment.

Thus, she is now back on her feet today.

The Montserrado County Lawmakers said added, “.by God grace, I am back for good.”
