HARPER, Liberia- The Superintendent of the southeastern Maryland County, George A. Prowd has informed the Citizens of the county that the planned official celebration of the upcoming July 26 celebration marking Liberia’s 175th Independence anniversary will not be held in the County.

Next Tuesday is the anniversary.

According to Supt. Prowd, the mysterious deaths of two persons in Harper and Pleebo cities need urgent attention and “we cannot celebrate when things are happening in such manner”.

He made the disclosure during a press conference with several Journalists in the County at Tubman University’s Radio 102.7 in Harper.

Supt. Prowd disclosed that the Liberian government is expected to send a team of pathologist to conduct autopsy on the  lifeless body of William VS Tubman University Student ( Anthony Tiaka) who was discovered death in his own bedroom in Zone 5 Community, Pleebo City, and an 8-year-old boy, Levi Koffa who went missing, and was later discovered dead on the shores of Lake  Shepherd in Harper Maryland county.

“I want to inform you the citizens of Maryland county that our plans for the celebration of July 26 this year 2022 will not be held because of the saddy situation or the mysterious deaths of two of our Children here in Maryland County, we as an authority of the County doing everything possible negotiating with Central Government to send pathologist to conduct autopsy on these two remains (death body),” Superintendent Prowd explained.

The mysterious deaths of the two persons have claimed the attention of several Citizens in the County, and putting fear in them.

“We the citizens of Maryland county are so downhearted for what has happened to two of our sons, we are calling on the Government of Liberia headed by President George M. Weah to do everything possible and investigate the untimely death of the TU Student, and the 8 years old child. The Citizens sorrowfully expressed during a Citizens meeting,” the Maryland County Superintendent added.

The mysterious deaths of people in Maryland County have been occurring frequently in recent years.

Last year, a commercial motorcyclist and student of Pleebo High School was brutally murdered in Pleebo district reportedly linked to ritualist activities, something that sparked serious riots that led to the destruction of the Harper Central Prison and the temporary imposition of a state of emergency by President George Manneh Weah.

And in 2019, another motorcyclist was gruesomely killed in Harper, all of which have sparked fear among locals.
