Margibi And Rivercess Counties Share Points In Kickball And Football Friendlies

It was a no win for both counties on Wednesday, 29 November in a friendly encounter in both kickball and football friendly for Margibi County and Rivercess County at the famous Nancy B. Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata, Margibi County.

The match was a friendly in preparation for the upcoming December 16, 2023 National County Sports Meet.

In kickball, the Gibi Girls of Margibi County and the Cetos Girls of Rivercess County played to a 5-all draw, as both teams share the points.

Margibi County featured several key players which incude new player Grace Jimmy, Ivanna Zoudia, Grace Varney and Mary Mosed with the inclusion of few old faces which include Patience Gonkor, Ecelia Saydee ,Myriah Zuo. For Rivercess, they featured few new signings that include former Margibi and Nimba Counties player Marcken Gibson, Princess Kortuwah, long serving player Seta Johnson, among others.

And in the football category, Timothy Flomo of  Margibi County toptier third division club Africa Sports Academy’s goal in the early minutes of the match, netting a 1-0 lead at halftime and then maintaining that lead to the end of the full 90 munutes of play, thus givint the Gibi boys of Margibi a win over Rivercess.

Back from the cooling break, the Gibi boys of Margibi County missed several golden opportunities. But it was substitute, Joshua Garway lone goal in the 78th minute of the second half got the equalizer for the Cestos Boys of Rivercess County as both counties played to a one-all-draw during the full 90th minutes.

It was the first time the Gibi Girls and Boys of Margibi County share points at the open-air Nancy B Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata, in the Build-up to the 2023/2024 National County Sports Meet.

Margibi County played two test matches at home with the Kickball and football team winning one and drawing one.

Margibi defeated Bong County in both kickball and football friendies at home on 26 November in a return leg after both teams played at the David Kuyon Sports Stadium in Gbarnga, Bong County on 19 November.

At home Margibi County defeated Bong County a narrow 5-4 homes run in kickball while in football Margibi County defeated Bong County 1-0 through an early minute goal in the first half.

In the first leg held on 19 November at the David Kuyion Sports Stadium in Gbarnga, Bong County the Kpatewee girls of Bong County suffers a 2-1 defeat in to the Gibi girls of Margibi County while in football Bong County was reduced to 10-men but play to a goalless draw with Margibi County.

In total, Margibi County played three matches in both kickball and football.

Two at home while one away but yet to taste a defeat at home or away.

Margibi County next friendly encounter is said to be on Sunday, 3 December at home with either Monsterrado or Nimba Counties in both kickball and football.

Margibi County is the host County of Group D with Lofa and Grand Bassa Counties while Nimba County hosts Rivercess, Bong and Grand Kru Counties of Group C.

This year’s edition of the nation’s most watched sporting festival the National County Sports Meet is expected to kick-start on 16 December in Fish Town, River Gee County.

Montserrado, Margibi and Nimba Counties are the other host counties for the preliminary rounds of the 2023/2024 National County Sports Meet.

The National County Sports Meet is a Knockout tournament which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth & Sports in colloboration with Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The Liberian National County Sports Meet is the top traditional knockout tournament of the Liberian traditional football inaugurated in 1956.

Maryland County won the first edition of such tournament.

Lofa and Nimba Counties won the previous edition of this annual national sports tournament in both kickball and football.
