With Latex FC Winning The Trophy In The Football Tournament In Margibi County

Weala-based newly football club Latex FC clinched the first inaugural Independence Day Celebration Football Tournament under the aupices of Salala Rubber Cooperation, Jetty Conglomerate in collaboration with Latex FC.

The tournament which kick-started on Friday,25 July and ends on Sunday,27 July with all games played at the famous Old Trafford Sports Pitch in German Camp ,Cinta Township, Weala brought together four football clubs that include hosts Latex FC, Weala United FC, Champions FC and Karlifa FC.

On Sunday, July 27, 2025 was the grand final, when the new Weala-based football club Latex FC defeated nearest noisy neighbor Weala FC 5-4 in a post-match penalties shoot outs after a one-all-draw at full-time.

Weala United FC took a 1-0 lead, after a scoreless first half in the 78′ minutes of the second half through a brilliant finish from Ezekiel   Caranda that beats goalkeeper Elijah Sackie to give his side a 1-0 lead against host Latex FC but with the full 90’minutes ended with 9’minutes added time Prince Kermue got the equalizer for Latex FC in the 90+ 2 minutes which saw both clubs playing to a one-all-draw at full-time.

Latex FC book a space to the grand final from a 2-1 narrow win against Karlifa FC on Saturday,26 July at the same venue of the tournament which saw Karlifa FC taking an early 1-0 lead but it was Kennedy Williams brace with him scoring in each half secured a grand final ticket for Latex FC and while on the other hand Weala United FC got a ride to the grand final after winning a convincing 3-1 against Champions FC on the opening day of the three-days long Independence Day Celebration Football Tournament.

Latex FC pockets a giant-size trophy along with LD$25,000.00 as first winner while Weala United FC earned LD$ 15,000.00 plus a small trophy as runner-up or second place winner.

As for the third place and fourth place winners Karlifa FC walks away with LD $ 10,000.00 while Champions FC received LD $ 5,000.00.

At the same time several players walk away with individual awards that include a certificate along with LD$ 2,000.00 as cash price.

Those individual awards winner include

  1. Albert Diggs (Latex FC)- MVP

2.Hilton C. Gbalewoe (Weala United FC) – Best Defender

  1. William Kennedy (Latex FC) – Highest Goals Scorer
  2. Emmanuel T. James (Latex FC) – Best Coach
  3. Elijah Sackie (Latex FC) – Best Goalkeeper

Speaking in an exclusive interview during the grand final on Sunday, 27 July Mr. Ikem Kennedy President or CEO of Latex FC lauded all of the participating teams for good sponsorship and most especially the SRC, Jetty Conglomerate for such timely sponsorship in making sure that the people of Weala, District 5 , Margibi County celebrates Liberia 178th Independence Day with Sports because sports unify us .

He mentioned that before the start of the tournament all of the participating teams received a set of jersey and footballs.

The occasion was graced by the lots of dignitaries that include the SRC, Jetty Conglomerate factory manger, CEO of Jonathan Sahr Cooper foundation, former Margibi Sports Association Chairman and Ka-City Co-owner Blaytee Williams, MOBEL CEO Moses Darmo, Upper Margibi LFA-Margibi Sub-Association Chairperson and Secretary General Abraham Bebe Smart, Benedict Chie, among others.
