The jam-packed sports pitch of Barnesville Estate near Monrovia was a scene of action over the weekend, when Bardnersville Old-timers Social & Athletic Club (Super BOSAC) clashed with LONA league club.
The game was a one day tournament of the 2020 edition of the J.C. Willie, Sr. tournament.
Weah Wesseh and Ben Brown’s goals in the first half gave BOSA a 2-0 win in the first half of the match over Super BOSAC.
Back from the break, Ben Brown made his tally double in the 64th minute of the second half of the match, giving BOSA a comfortable 3-0 win over Super BOSAC.
The second half very tense, with the center referee awarding two penalties. But Ben Brown missed for BOSA to score a hat-trick, while Zinnah Zeimahvula misses for Super BOSAC.
Speaking to www.newspublictrust.com, Pege Wright, Chairman of Super BOSAC said the tournament was in commemoration of J.C. Willie, Sr 73rd birthday.
Chairman Wright noted that tournament is to foster unity between the two old-timer teams of which Mr. Willie is a founding member.
“Mr Willie’s contributions to the development of sports in Barnesville Estate cannot be ignored,” said Wright.
He also said he was always in the developmental interest of Barnesville Estate, most especially during the 80’s and 90’s.
For his part, the President of BOSA, Andrew Woto lauded Mr.Willie for being farsighted in fostering unity between the two clubs, something he said will serve as an example for other members in the diaspora.
“He always wanted the best out of me most especially when we are on the pitch no matter the results,” said Woto.
Also speaking was Janjay Jacobs, Vice president for Administration of Super BOSAC who thanked the both teams for their participation. But he said though they lost the match, they promised that Super BOSAC will bounce back and clinch the trophy next year.
This year’s tournament was the 2nd edition after BOSA won a narrow 2-1 win over Super BOSAC last year.

During his playing days in Liberia during his youth age he played for Jet FC where he served as captain for three years in the Liberia Football Association national league.
He also played for Alpha Old-timers, BOSA and Super BOSAC.
Mr. Willie, who resides in the USA, is one of the founding organizer of BOSA and Chairman, organizing committee of Super BOSAC.
Some of his contributions include being a part of the process for the building of the Bardnersville Road by the PRC government, building of the playground through the kind courtesy of Paul E. Mulbah, Managing Director, organizer of the Barnesville Area League. He was also instrumental in making sure that the recent renovation of the sitting capacity during the regime of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf through Robert Sirleaf Foundation.
He also served as ticket supervisor to manage both the ATS and SKD during the leadership of former LFA boss, Cletus Worterson and Minister Grisgsby of the Ministry of Youth & Sports.
