SPORTS: Orange National League: Sheik Sessay Brace Salvage A Point For Champions Watanga FC

The SKD PP in Paynesville over the weekend witness spectacular football showpiece with interesting results in the Orange National League-1st Division 2022-2023 league season.

On Sunday, 23 October at the SKD PP in Paynesville in the chase for domestic silverware in the top-tier league of Liberia the Orange National League-1st Division reigning champions, Watanga FC share point with former back-to-back champions LPRC Oilers in a well-entertaining football showpiece that saw spectators showing love for the respective clubs.

Albert Swen alias ” Zuma” header gives the Oil Boys of LPRC Oilers an early away 1-0 lead over  Watanga FC. But with much time to end the first half Sheikh Sesay’s volley earn a point for Watanga FC with both teams playing to a 1-out draw at halftime.

Back from the break with much enthusiasm from the former back-to-back champions LPRC Oilers from a classic soccer displayed the Oil Boys of LPRC Oilers got on the score sheet for the first time in the second through its team front man, Obediah Freeman, alias ” David Villa” to give them a 2-1 lead that saw Coach Copper Sannah of Watanga FC been down twice by his former employer LPRC Oilers.

And still with much energy from the home team after the reigning champions Watanga FC got controlled of the game it was substitute Mark Gibson that was able to give Watanga FC another goal after he was fouled in the box with team captain Farsedu Logan scoring from the penalty spot to level the score 2-2. The former back-to-back champions LPRC Oilers got on the score sheet from a rocket finish from the former Sinoe County player Albert Swen, alias “Zuma” that was overlooked by goalkeeper Teddy Kollie to give LPRC Oilers a 3-2 lead over Watanga FC.

The goal was Albert Swen’s second goal in the match with the player scoring one at each half. But with still less minutes left plus added time to end such exciting fixtures it was the youngster Sheikh Sesay’s sensational kick from distance salvage a point for the home team Watanga FC, with both team playing to a 3-3 draw at full time.  The goal was the former Montserrado County Championship outfit club Habiba FC player Sheikh Sesay’s second goal of the match with him registering two goals in the match with one at each half.

The former Lofa County National County Sports Meet Winner Sheikh Sesay’s has now registered four goals since Coach Copper Sannah joined the regining champions Watanga FC from LPRC Oilers as the youngster is very instrumental in making sure that Watanga FC retain the Championship.

The draw for the current champions Watanga FC drops the team to third place on the league table with 17 points from 8 games played. In other results over the weekend, former Orange National League-1st Division MVP Christopher Jackson brace was enough to secure three points for LISCR FC over Nimba United FC.  LISCR FC came from a goal down at the Tusa Field Sports Stadium in Gardnerville on Sunday, 23 October to win Nimba United FC after Nimba United FC won 1-0 at halftime.

The LISCR FC tailsman Jackson scored his brace in the second half of the match. The win for LISCR FC moves the club to second place on the league table with 17 points.  The 2021-2022 Orange National League-1st Division runner-up tied on points with Champions Watanga FC.  Christopher Jackson two goals for his club this season marks his six goals in the league as he is not the league top goal scorer.   At the ATS on 21 October A. Yaya Bility’s lone goal from Darius Mcgee earn a point for FC Bea Mountain after FC Bea Mountain won 1-0 at halftime over Mighty Barrolle.

But midfielder Bility goal was not enough as the Kayan Pepper Boys of Mighty Barrolle got on the score sheet in the second half of the match with both teams sharing a point as full time ended in a 1-out draw.  And on 22 October at the same venue Adolphus Robert and substitute Randy Maccaley goals got a convincing 2-0 home run for MUSCAT FC over Invincible Eleven. The win for MUSCAT FC moves the club to 4th place on the league table with team accumulating 14 points thus far. In other results of Round 8 matches from 19- 21 October, Freeport FC 1-2 Nimba Kwado FC ( Tusa Field) Cece United 1-2 H.Eleven ( ATS) Jubilee 1-3 Sandi FC (ATS) FC Bea Mountain is on top of the league table with 18 points from 8 games played winning 5 with 3 draws.

The Gold Boys Of FC Bea Mountain yet to taste a defeat since the new season, while Freeport FC is at the bottom of the league table and remains the only club yet to get a win since the start of the new season in the top-tier league the Orange National League-1st Division 2022-2023 Season.  Here is the full fixtures of Round 9 of matches.
