GRAND BASSA, Liberia– A tragic motor accident on the Buchanan to Monrovia Highway has left two people dead and two others critically injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday night on BIA Hill in Electoral District 2, Grand Bassa County.

Reports indicate that a truck loaded with iron ore, collected from various fields in Buchanan, overturned while ascending BIA Hill.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck failed to make it up the hill, leading it to reverse uncontrollably.

Jehu Kpahyoah, a resident of the district, explained that the driver reportedly lost control while attempting to adjust the steering, causing the truck to reverse onto the main road and topple over, blocking traffic in both directions and creating a hazardous situation.

Shortly after the accident, a speeding motorcyclist carrying three passengers—a woman and two men—failed to see the overturned truck in time and collided with it.

Mr. Kpahyoah, who lives near the scene, said the crash resulted in critical injuries to three individuals, including the bike rider.

Two of the victims (Garpue Johnson and Dekontee Johnny) were later pronounced dead at the Government Hospital in Buchanan, while the two others (Blessing Johnson and Isaac Fine-Boy) remain in critical condition.

According to reports, the victims were residents of Taye’s Town Community in Grand Bassa and relatives of Samuel Johnson, Regional Cultural Inspector of Grand Bassa, Margibi and Rivercess Counties.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported among those in the truck.

Joseph Zondoe, the Officer in Charge of the Buchanan Government Hospital, stated that emergency responders from the hospital quickly dispatched an ambulance to the scene.

Mr. Zondoe said those injured were promptly transported to the hospital, where they are currently receiving urgent medical treatment.

Stantons Peterson, Grand Bassa Traffic police Commander confirmed the accident to www.newpublictrust.com via telephone and announced that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident.

However, several eyewitnesses at the scene suggested that the truck’s loss of control may have been due to mechanical failure or driver error.

The ongoing investigation by the Liberian National Police will uncover the precise circumstances leading to this tragic incident.

Mr. Johnson is urgently appealing for assistance to facilitate the transfer of the remaining two injured individuals to (JFK-Hospital) in Monrovia for advanced medical treatment.
