Liberian Gov’t Imposes Temporary Ban On Movement Of Heavy Vehicles With Cargo On Unpaved Roads During Rainy Season

A temporary moratorium has been placed on movement of heavy vehicles with cargo along unpaved road corridors around Liberia, a Public Works Ministry’s statement said at the weekend.

This measure is expected to come into force on July 31, 2025.

“The Ministry of Public Works, in exercise of its statutory mandate to protect national infrastructure and ensure road safety, hereby issues a temporary moratorium on the movement of heavy goods vehicles exceeding 25 metric tons (inclusive of cargo and vehicle weight) along key unpaved primary road corridors during the 2025 rainy season,” the statement said.

It added: “This measure is intended to preserve critical road networks, enhance safety, and reduce rapid deterioration caused by overloaded vehicles during this vulnerable period.”
