MONROVIA – Liberia Women’s  National Team defeated the Young Maidens of the Teranga National of Senegal in the return leg of FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville on May 19, 2024.

The Female U-17 team of Liberia displayed a beautiful and astonishing soccer performance in the return leg to put Liberia ahead of Senegal despite losing 3-1 to the visitors at the “Stade Lat Dior Stadium” in Dakar, Senegal.The w

in against the visitors for the U-17 to move to the next round made it the first time that Liberia ever qualified over Senegal at any level in African Football, and it was a moment of joy by Liberians who turned out to see the enthusiasm and overzealous of supporters when Louise Brown of Determine Girls got the back of the net of Senegal from the penalty spot before the recess break.

Speaking to journalists in a pre-match press conference in Paynesville at the Headquarters of the Liberia Football Association, the head coach of the U-17 Women’s team, Sekou Dgeorge Munubah expressed optimism that the girls will certainly make a comeback in Monrovia because they have corrected all errors and put necessary mechanism in place to get the needed result at home.

“I remain very positive with my players and technical team that the result going to be fruitful tomorrow. I can assure Liberians that the players are in good spirits. We have made a couple of changes, but we remain very optimistic that we will get the result”. Coach Munubah.

The head coach of Liberia Women’s Under 17 National Team who was once a founding member of one of Liberia’s outstanding youth soccer academies, LEAD Academy, has restored the loss happiness of Lonestar over a decade as his team defeated Senegal to break their long-awaited supremacy in African Football thereby making to the next round in the 2024 FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup Qualifiers.

With great optimism and a positive mind despite other challenges and after the defeat in Senegal, coach Munubah was able to put Liberia back in the competition with two goals to nail which Liberia advances to the next stage on an away-goal rule on aggregate 3-3 and will play Nigeria in the first leg in June.

The 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be the 8th edition of the competition. A total of 16 teams will qualify for the final tournament. Dominican Republic who qualified automatically as hosts, the other 15 teams qualify from six separate continental competitions.
