Monrovia- The Liberia National Police (LNP) is investigating a strange episode in Monrovia, after two employees of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) were discovered dead in a parked vehicle on Snapper Hill, Broad Street early Friday morning.
The Facebook pages of the pair—Albert Peters and Gifty A. Lama—are overwhelmed with grief and astonishment.
One of the messages reads: “Why Albert and Gifty? What happened?? Your death is shocking. My heart is bleeding for you. I can’t stop crying and thinking about you since i heard about your death. I saw you all at LRA on Wednesday, so very alive. I didn’t know that this was my last time seeing you. Aye mehn Gifty! So brilliant, intelligent, humble, simple and spiritual! You accomplished a lot than most people your age in your short lifetime and still had more untapped potentials.”
The two were discovered dead opposite the Secret Heart Cathedral Catholic Church and the vehicle is said to belong to Albert.
Police Spokesman, Moses Carter told a news conference on Friday that Albert’s wife, who was in tears, explained that her husband told her on Thursday, Oct 1,2020 at 6:30am that he was going to withdraw money from his account at UBA Bank up Snapper Hill. But she said he didn’t return home on Thursday.
So, on Friday morning, October 2, 2020 while in search for him, she discovered his body along with another employee of the same institution during her search.
According to Mr. Peter’s wife, she went to search for her husband and while walking on Broad Street, she identified his vehicle on Snapper Hill, then she immediately informed the police.
When the police came on the scene, the trunk of the her husband’s Jeep was not locked as well as the right back door.
The police later searched the Jeep and met the deceased, Peters along with Gifty Lama with her clothes on, while he was wearing a boxer.
A city parking attendance, who refused to be named, said he witnessed the arrival of the two vehicles on Thursday. He told reporters that when both Mr. Peters and Mrs. Lama arrived and parked their cars, he went and placed his tickets on the two vehicles. Then Madam Lama later left her vehicle and entered the vehicle of Mr. Peters at about 9am October 1st, 2020.
After he saw madam Lama entering Mr. Peters’’ vehicle, he left them and went to check on others vehicles, after placing tickets on their cars. But the parking attendance said he didn’t know what happened in the vehicle of Mr. Peters thereafter.
According to him, as the evening hours approached (Thursday), he went and knocked at the vehicle door of the Mr. Peters. But he explained that no one responded and so he left.
The parking attendant said upon returning for duty the next morning, Friday he was surprised to see vehicles at the same location and heard that two persons died in a vehicle that he placed the ticket on.
The situation Friday left many residents in and out of Monrovia wondering as to how the two LRA workers died.
Speculation is rife and there are several theories flying around in Monrovia. Were the pair murdered and their bodies placed into the vehicle by unknown persons to create the impression that they both were in love affair?
The bodies of the two individuals were on Friday deposited at the St. Moses Funeral Parlours, pending medical examination to determine cause of death.
